Shaping a New Deal for the Single Market

Shaping a New Deal for the Single Market

FEM joins in with 20 other industries to call for an EU approach on harmonised standards that sustains a competitive European industry.

The European Commission intends to develop an ambitious industrial strategy in support of EU digital and environmental objectives. In this context, a functioning Single Market with an efficient harmonised standards system remains necessary. In practice, however, companies face serious issues with the current EU governance for harmonised standards, putting the smooth operation of the Single Market at risk.

Concerned with such developments, the co-signatory industries make 3 recommendations to improve the situation:

1- Assess the interpretation of the current regulatory framework on standards to address identified issues

2- Improve current mechanisms for the development, assessment and use of harmonised standards

3- Involve industry in discussion on European standardisation policy
