European Commission postpones the revision of the Machinery Directive

FEM welcomes the European Commission’s revised work plan 2020 that aligns with post COVID-19 recovery. As recovering from the most serious crisis of a generation will focus Member States and the European industry’s efforts and resources in the coming months, this decision rightfully reflects such a reality at policy level. In these difficult times, a supportive EU framework is critical.

FEM, together with Orgalim and other machinery industries, has been quite vocal in supporting a new timeline for the revision of the Machinery Directive. The decision to postpone the process is welcome though we are concerned 3 more months will not be sufficient to allow meaningful industry participation in the process. This is however deemed essential in view of the far-reaching consequences that the Directive has on our manufacturers’ products.

In any case, FEM renew its call for an updated impact assessment that takes full account of the new economic that will be ours for the months to come.
