Construction Products Regulation & materials handling

FEM has issued a guidance document providing assistance in the interpretation and application of key principles of the Construction Products Regulation (305/2011/EU). This document helps to assess whether this piece of legislation applies to potentially relevant equipment, since several types of materials handling, lifting and storage equipment are associated with construction works. The Construction Products Regulation lays down harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products, notably their performance and the use of CE marking on these products.

In addition, the Intralogistic Systems Product Group has issued a specific document for intralogistic systems. It concludes that in general intralogistic systems cannot be considered as a construction product and are therefore not affected by the Regulation.

In the future the FEM guide might be completed with further annexes providing specific assessment for other relevant categories of materials handling equipment.
