FEM statement on the proposal for a Regulation on the road approval of non-road mobile machinery

The European Materials Handling Federation welcomes the European Commission proposal for a Regulation on the road type-approval for non-road mobile machinery. After many years of discussion on the need for a European framework, manufacturers are glad to see a harmonised regulatory instrument that will ensure a high level of safe circulation of non-road mobile machinery on public roads.

We are confident that the finalised legislation will help ensure uniform high standards of road safety requirements throughout the EU and establish a forum for discussing safety issues and protection of the environment related to road circulation, ultimately benefiting the entire European Union.

As the European Union commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Single Market, this legislative proposal also serves as a tangible example of measures that effectively promote further integration of the Single Market. This new, targeted EU legislation will indeed remove the current obstacles resulting from diverse national road circulation requirements for mobile machinery. The future Regulation will reduce unnecessary expenses and alleviate the excessive administrative burden on mobile machinery manufacturers. Ultimately, this eliminates market entry obstacles for the industry within the Single Market.

FEM is looking forward to working together with the European Council and the European Parliament in the upcoming decision-making process to develop legislation that bolsters European competitiveness and innovation while maintaining road safety for mobile machinery.
